Did you know Peikko Lietuva has created a unique solution? That is P shape DELTABEAM® Composite Beams, this helped to ensure an easy and extremely fast installation process on site at Polish House of Culture in Vilnius, a new extension and renovation which started in 2021.

A new four - story building will include premises of cafeteria, hotel rooms, conference hall, the studio of the Polish television TVP Wilno, and office spaces. More than 30 public organizations are located in the current premises.

They are rapidly expanding, so it was decided to increase the premises by building a new extension. During the renovation of the project, an underground parking lot will also be installed.

The project was prepared by the company Statybos inžinierių konsultantų biuras, the architect of the extension is Miroslaw Szejnicki.

Darius Račkauskas, structural engineer of the structural designer company MB "Invila" comments that for this project, products manufactured by Peikko Lietuva were chosen because of their quality and certificates, as well as the team of Peikko professional engineers who are always ready to help the designers solve questions and, if necessary, design additional elements.

DELTABEAM® Composite Beams in this facility were chosen for their fire resistance, that is achieved without additional painting or treatment with other protective measures. Using these types of beams, a smooth ceiling was obtained and a higher ceiling height was ensured.

Peikko Lietuva senior structural engineer, Vadimas Kitovas, who contributed to this project, says that during the design process, a number of challenges were encountered in creating and implementing complex engineering solutions, which were professionally resolved thanks to Peikko Lietuva's experts.

The company produced and delivered to the construction site: DELTABEAM® Composite Beams, steel structures, PETRA® Slab Corbels, WELDA® and KL fastening plates, and HPM® anchor bolts. The project used 1406 m of DELTABEAM® Composite Beams, which design was focused on fast and easy installation:

  • In the parking level DELTABEAM® Composite Beams were designed with special details welded on ledges which had the purpose of creating the necessary slope of parking floor right after the assembly of hollow-core slabs.
  • The building had a masonry facade specified to be assembled on the tips of beam cantilevers. Such a facade system is extremely sensitive to the deflections of beam ends. For this case DELTABEAM® Composite Beams were designed with a cantilever part pre-camber made in the factory. Thus, the deformations of cantilevers were significantly reduced without increasing height of the beams.
  • The biggest challenge in the project was the corner part of the building which had a cantilever in both directions, 1.7 x 2.1 m from the edge of the corner column. A typical solution in such cases is to use cast-in situ structures but they increase the installation time significantly compared to precast solutions. In addition, rigid connections for the beams are necessary, which are difficult to install on site. By using DELTABEAM® Composite Beams the installation of the corner cantilever became extremely easy – Peikko Lithuania engineers designed special P-shaped DELTABEAM® Composite Beams that allowed to create the shape of two-way cantilever just by installing the beam on the columns. Furthermore, all rigid connections were prepared in the factory removing any necessity of welding works on site.

The second floor of the building has big open spaces extended over two floors. The width of one space is 14 m, therefore at the top of the open space hollow-core slabs with a span of 14 m were used and supported on DELTABEAM® Composite Beams. By using DELTABEAM® Composite Beams it was possible to cover 14 m span while maintaining a slim-floor structure.
