The Port of Gävle has the third largest container terminal in Sweden and exports for the steel, wood and paper industries. The port has a strategic location in central Sweden. Part of the major expansion of the port was a new automated warehouse for handling paper rolls.

NCC Infrastructure was commissioned to build the first port in the world with an automated warehouse for paper by Gävle Hamn AB.

Today, YILPORT Gävle handles warehouse management. The entire warehouse is automated, so after the rolls have arrived at the warehouse by train, all handling takes place automatically.

The storage area is 6,500 square meters and the storage capacity amounts to 40,000 tons. Weights between 16 – 30 tonnes are placed on an area of 4 sqm in the warehouse.

To ensure that the base plate can withstand the loads without risk of puncture breakage, Peikko PSB® puncture reinforcement was used. With Peikko PSB®, a capital slab was needed, and with it even a smaller amount of concrete in comparison with other methods to protect minor breakthroughs.
