Peikko Group Corporation’s Swedish subsidiary Peikko Sverige AB has received a substantial composite structure order to the expansion of Malmö University in Sweden. 4.5 km of Deltabeams and 2.3 km of composite columns will be delivered to the site during spring 2013.
The university expansion in the so called Niagara quarter of the campus in Malmö comprises three buildings sized together 20.000 m³. The developer of the project is Akademiska Hus and the architect is Danish Lundgaard & Tranberg. The frame constructor is Östra Vrams Smide AB and the precast elements are delivered by Starka AB.
Peikko’s composite frame concept including Deltabeams and composite columns gives benefits in constructing the building frame. It is cost-competitive, flexible and enables fast frame erection. In this particular project, with the use of Deltabeams and their in-built formwork the demanding façade forms could be realized without extensive use of in-situ casting. Also the form of the Deltabeam enables the effective use of precast technology, and thus saves costs, time and labor in the hollow-core slab production process.
“We are proud that our composite frame concept was chosen to this noticeable expansion project of the Malmö University. The concept has proved to be a solution offering benefits that are especially appreciated in tight-scheduled and architecturally demanding projects”, states Topi Paananen, CEO of Peikko Group Corporation.
